Individual Income Protection

It is possible for people to overestimate the amount of State help they will receive if they are taken ill.

According to Gov.uk, if you are employed the weekly rate for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is £89.35 for up to 28 weeks (April 2017).

If you are self-employed you may be entitled to Employment Support Allowance (ESA). The assessment phase rate, which is paid for the first 13 weeks of a claim while a decision is made on candidate’s capability for work through the Work Capability Assessment is as follows (as at April 2017):

 

  • A single person aged under 25 can receive up to £57.90 a week.
  •  A single person aged 25 and over can receive up to £73.10 a week.

 

So in short, there is some provision from the State but it is limited. However, with an Individual Income Replacement Plan from Wiltshire Friendly you can make sure that you are personally protected to a level that suits you.

Sickness Income Plus

This is our current Individual Income Replacement Plan (sometimes referred to as Income Protection Insurance). It is designed to pay you regular benefit to replace part of your regular income that is lost when you are unable to work because of illness or injury. The plan also aims to pay you a cash sum when you reach the plan retirement age.

Policy Example

For a 30 year old non-smoker, earning £35,000 per year, an Income Replacement Plan could provide you with a monthly income, after an initial 1 week waiting period, of £1,000 and cost £30 per month.*

One of our newest recruits, Josh joined the Society in November 2016 from the Financial Services Industry, predominantly in pensions. Working as a Sales Consultant is a new career path for Josh and one that he is extremely excited about. He also mans the ‘sales desk’ for all sales related queries.

 

Josh is also on the road meeting current and potential members, demonstrating the importance of income protection, using his first-hand experiences within his own family to illustrate the impact of not having income protection.
