Staff Spotlight – Gavin Puzas

In this article we wanted to highlight our new adviser who replaced Alan Godfrey after his retirement. We asked Gavin the following questions so you can understand more about him and his role.

Q. Gavin, how long have you been working at Wiltshire Friendly Society?

Just over a year at the Society, though I have been working within the insurance industry for nearly 14 years now.

Q. What are the main responsibilities of your job?

My role is a real mix of things, though it is always focused on one thing – helping people with their income protection requirements.
I work with both existing members and new members, giving advice on their specific income protection needs.
I also work closely with Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) who use our various products for their clients’ personal and group business needs.
I am also part of a team that delivers the Society’s marketing strategy, so you will hopefully see more and more of the social media posts I’ll be issuing.

Q. What do you like best about your job?

I like to think of myself as a people person - members are at the heart of our business and I have a sense of pride in helping them plan and protect themselves against potential harder times if they get sick or injured.
I like the variety of my job as no one day is the same and every member is different, which keeps things interesting.
And obviously it goes without saying that the whole Wiltshire Friendly team makes the office environment a great place to work, even though this has been a virtual experience lately.

Q. What does a good day look like for you?

Completing my to do list!
Conversations about our products, whether that’s servicing an existing plan or talking about a new one.
Effective teamwork – more recently the remote working has meant we have had to be better organised at working together. It’s been amazing how well we have worked together even when we don’t see each other (apart from on a screen).

Q. As a Member, should I be reassured you exist?

Absolutely - I am your key point of contact when you want to talk about varying your plan or taking out more cover. My job is to assess your needs, then advise and make a recommendation that I believe best suits you.

Q. What do you like to do in your time outside of work?

I like to keep myself busy. A typical weekend would include long walks with my partner and our two dogs, doing odd jobs around the house and meeting up with friends and family. This last year has obviously been a bit different…the walking may have been restricted but I have managed to lay a parquet floor!

Q. And finally, how would your colleagues at work describe you?

A friendly face, a positive person, someone to go to for help and able to make people laugh…though that’s something I don’t plan for - it just happens!
