| WHAT OUR COVER WILL GIVE YOU AN INCOME WHILST SICK OR INJURED If illness or an accident stops you from earning your living, Sickness Income Plus could pay you a regular income. This income would, subject to provisions of the rules of the Society, continue to be paid until you are fit enough to return to work, or until you reach retirement age - whichever comes first. |

| PLUS Sickness Income Plus can also help you save for your retirement. Every year, subject to a bonus being declared, eligible members are credited with their share of the Society's surplus. Over the years these bonuses accumulate, so that eventually, when you retire, you can look forward to receiving what could be a useful sum of cash. What's more, your entitlement to the annual bonuses is not directly affected by the number of times you may have claimed sickness benefit. WHO CAN JOIN SICKNESS INCOME PLUS? Anyone who is employed or self-employed, is in reasonable health and not older than 50 years of age, can apply for membership. HOW LONG ARE YOU PREPARED TO WAIT BEFORE YOU CAN CLAIM BENEFIT? You can choose to start claiming sickness benefit from the first day of incapacity, or after 1, 4, 13, 26 or 52 weeks after the expiration of the initial 5 months of membership. The longer you can afford to wait (what we call the 'deferred period') before claiming, the less your contributions will be. Your decision will probably depend on whether you have any other source of income at the beginning of an illness and whether you have any savings or not. |
