WHAT IS SICKNESS INCOME PLUS? Sickness Income Plus is designed to replace part of your normal earned income if you become unable to work due to sickness or injury. In addition membership enables you to participate in any surplus that the Society may distribute as bonuses. Sickness Income Plus can normally be arranged with a choice of Standard or Reduced Cost Cover. Both arrangements offer the same amount of sickness benefit but Reduced Cost Cover will provide you with half of the benefits available on retirement compared with those available under standard cover.
Once you have been a member for 5 months and paid all contributions due, you will be entitled to claim benefit from either the first day of illness/injury or after a deferred period of 1, 4, 13, 26 or 52 weeks as agreed at the time you join. Sickness benefit is paid at an agreed amount every 2 weeks over an initial period of 52 weeks. If you are still unable to work as a result of your illness or injury, you will continue to receive benefit at one half of the original amount until recovery, ceasing to be a member, or reaching normal retirement age of 65, whichever comes first.
